Visible Monday 3-25-13

My first full-fledged Visible Monday. (I finally managed to have camera and husband available at the same time I remembered I wanted a picture.)

This is a collection of vintage and new, and fairly representative of my "style," if I have one. Casual, with color.  The gilet (sweater vest) is too small but I neglected to send it back for exchange so wear it anyway.  I love Fat Face and wish I lived in the UK so I could shop there easily. Well, that's only one reason I wish I lived in the UK.

Choker, World Market. Medallion thingy, no idea.
Small strands of beads, hand-me-down from my mom.

I found the green bag on somebody else's fashion blog
but don't remember where so I can't link back and say thanks!
Anyway, it was a cold Sunday afternoon but sunny and we were headed out to shop and get a late lunch. So first I stood in a messy corner of the yard and said, "Quick. Take my picture."

And he did.

Details:
Waffle Henley: Eddie Bauer (marked down to $9.99)
Fat Face Army Knitted Gilet (on sale for £45--no longer available, seen on polyvore)
Woven leather belt -- vintage 70s
Nino Bossi Crunch Leather Cross Body Bag ($82) at Amazon
Born Natasha boots ($157)
Life of Pi Collection choker (World Market)
Other necklaces, misc.

Thanks to Patti at Visible Monday for hosting this fun meme!

Visible Monday #1

Brand new blog, created just to join the fun on on Visible Monday, trying to work this thing out.

To introduce myself, I’m totally new at fashion-type stuff. I’ve always known what I liked but rarely spent much time or thought actually doing anything about it. This is a new experiment for me, so, here goes.

Sweater vest from Sears catalog in the early 80s. Strange, scratchy but warm mix of manmade fibers and wool. Even when it didn’t fit me any more, I held onto it, and now I know why. It fits again, and hey, it’s so cool the tattooed&pierced chick at Whole Foods commented on it. I count that as a win.

The knit shirt is Liz Claiborne, thrifted. Probably from the 90s, I’m thinking, but that is just a guess.

The pearls lived in my mother’s drawer for decades, taken out on rare occasions.  I decided to wear them. I’m kind of surprised they looked so good with jeans bumming around the house, though.

At some point I’ll figure out how to take a full length picture of myself but for now, hi, I’m pooks, I’m a writer in Dallas, Texas who spends more time in jeans and t-shirt than anything worth photographing, but I intend to change that from time to time here.

knit shirt: Liz Claiborne, thrifted [no idea how old]
sweater vest: vintage, Sears, 1980s
pearls: heirloom, my mom
jeans: Eddie Bauer
boots: Born
socks: Smart Wool (my favorite)

NOTE: I'm having trouble leaving comments for people because my various accounts on different sites are probably going to lead you back to the wrong blogs/locations. Sorry about that. Maybe I'll figure out a system that works better soon.
